the beautiful Orange Walk South

Hey peeps!! today i'm going to show you a little bit about my home town and constituency Orange Walk South. First of all Orange Walk South (O/W South) consists of   10 villages of which seven of them lie on the South corridor which is the main highway for the area and three lie on the Guinea Grass sugar road. Approximately 15,000 people live in this sparse area. this area consists of two villages with strong commercial, political and sugar industries ties (Guinea Grass, August Pine Ridge),  their are also villages very dependent from the strong agriculture and livestock industries (Blue Creek, Ship-Yard Village) and villages with a Tourism hub   ( Gallon Jug and Indian Church Village).
Here are some activities you can do on O/W South:

lets take a look at the sugar roads first: we find Guinea Grass Village, 6 miles from the B. S.I  factory. Along the way there is this beautiful landscape. if you encounter with  herds of Water Buffalo along the road don't be alarmed because a Water Buffalo farm is just beside the road hidden by the thick grasses.

If you are up for a treat you can visit  Mac Deli's a popular snack bar in the village with good customer service and quality in their food( pizza, cakes, nachos, dips, ice-creams and shakes.) You can also come and visit the most prestigious School in Orange Walk South and one of the top 10 best schools in the country and interact with the children.
after having a good time in the community you can head down the New River Park and relax

You can play poker, dominoes or just hang your hammock and enjoy the cool breeze before entering those hazel green New River waters.

Weekend nights at Guinea Grass is full with activities such as: competitions, Watching a game on pay per view at Cabanas restaurant while eating some mouth watering ceviche or just Dancing the night away at Gemini's Cool Spot.

If you are not in to that hard party mood because believe me the dance floor gets crazy good you can visit the Rock Of Ages church, the largest auditorium in Orange Walk South with  a capacity of 500 persons with a modern architectural design. Here you can see many talented young men and women displaying their talent while listening  to words of encouragement.

internal and external view of the church.

.
Cane fields can be seen  on your way out of Guinea Grass Village

Tropic airlines air strip is just 10 minutes away from Guinea Grass across the vast acres of cane fields in the Village of Chan Pine Ridge.

After a good time at Guinea Grass you can visit a more traditional village Ship-Yard a Mennonite community which you can learn about carpentry, farming, sewing and quilting.
The biggest store Elias Shop is located on camp three  its an ideal place to buy your groceries, toys and tools as they are all tax exempted.

In the midst of the shipyard(camp 3) road surrounded by cattle ranches and the new river lies the small village of Fire-Burn with a population of 145. The village is mostly a hunting "game meat" and fishing village. The village is also full with coconut trees that brings a lot of income to the small settlement. Its a good place to learn about hunting and medicinal plant. Did i mention this village runs fully on Solar Panels.

Lastly in the Guinea Grass Sugar Road you have Indian Church Village home to the famous and one of the oldest Mayan ruins in Belize.

You can even be a howler monkey for a day and swing in the vines.

You can not leave Indian Church Village with out eating at Marie's restaurant the best restaurant in the area fulfilling you with Caribbean and Latin American cuisines.
As Marie's Restaurant is just at the corner of San Carlos Road the Last Village  on this Rout.Come and visit the San Carlos Public Library  and read one of the  hundreds of novels  present as it  has the most novel books in the entire Orange Walk District.

If you wait just a little you can see the breathtaking sun set in SanCarlos near its blue and unspoiled  Lagoon.

Lets Continue to Our Trip through O/W SOUTH now lets go to the southern Corridor highway less than 15 miles away from the  Guinea Grass Sugar Road.

Yo-Creek Catholic Orthodox Temple
After eating some delicious O/W tacos at the busy town of "Sugah City" Orange Walk town your first stop should be Yo-Creek Village. a very elaborate community that houses many Spanish and European influenced public buildings such as the Orthodox Catholic Temple. Here you can stop and pay a visit, pray and admire the beautiful architecture inside and out side of this building. After this you can visit the creek that gave this village its existence the yo- creek, located at the southern exit of the village.

Just a couple of miles away you can find the Village of Trinidad home to the official bus line of the south Tillet's bus line which is now the biggest bus line in the north of Belize. Trinidad also hosts a green botanical park. The village fairs and public gatherings are also held on its plaza.

Just a mile away you can find the village of San Lazaro. A village well known for its folk tales and legends. Here you can visit the farm that brought this village to the centre of attention to the north of Belize
last year because their the mystical 'Chupa-Cabra' was found. if you want to cool down from all that chill and excitement you can do so in the center public swimming pool.

Their is also August Pine Ridge just after San Lazaro  as the name implies it is a sandy village  full with Pine trees and locals live like islanders in the sand. if you are into coconuts and flowers that's the place to be  and ride around the village looking at its beauty!!

Just imagine watching the sunrise at August Pine Ridge

After exploring this beautiful village you can visit the village of San Felipe as you go deeper to the South. it is known for its Mexican heritage as it is close to the
Mexican territory. it has two Mexican cantinas 'bar' and is home to one of the biggest horse race tracks
in the country. The Padron farm hosts annual horse race competitions and it just gets the whole area thrilled with excitement!!!

On the ends of the South corridor lies Blue Creek a modern wealthy Mennonite community with a Texan Cowboy lifestyle. It is one of the economic strong holds of O/W South.
A typical Blue Creek  cowgirl and her ranch
It is also a relaxing place after watching  the hustle and bustle Texas life like commotion of big companies  such as Circle R and RB motors the largest companies of O/W South. You can come and relax at the beautiful Blue Creek falls or have a nice adventure doing rodeo or simply learning about agriculture. Did I mention they have top of the line restaurants like Bachfeld Restaurant & cafe a 19th century Amish styled restaurant!!

further south deeper in the Belizean jungle lies an estate called Gallon Jug a very prestige estate that consists of a number of industries such as the re-known Gallon Jug coffee and sauces, rose wood sawmill and the beautiful Chan-Chich lodge and archaeological site.
The most impressive attractions are  the spotting of wild life  from Jaguars to bats and monkeys to Boas. you can travel the estate and enter into the Mayan mountains and Nature Reserves just foot steps away.
Here in the Gallon Jug Estate you can see peacocks, deer, foxes and many other animals  roaming freely daily through the streets and in yards of locals  with no danger of being killed or hunted.

The Lodge at Chan-Chich is another marvelous place to visit it has state of the art restaurants and bedrooms and a very amicable staff  and a restaurant that serves both local and international cuisines
